Today’s adorable pattern is the Basic Striped Beanie, designed for the challenge by Amy Ramnarine of The Stitchin’ Mommy. Let’s find out a little bit more about Amy!
Where are you from? Tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m from New York City, NY and I’ve lived here my whole life. I have been married to my best friend for almost 6 years and we have a wonderful almost 4 year old daughter and a son on the way!
Why do you crochet? How did you learn?
I taught myself to crochet in 2009 by watching YouTube tutorials and reading crochet books. It started more as a hobby but has now turned into a full time career for me.
What are your can’t-live-without essentials for crocheting (or other crafts)?
Well I definitely can’t live without my yarn stash and my favorite hooks. As long as I have my hooks and some wonderful yarn, I can live without anything else.
What do you do to make your stitching space an inspiring and comfortable place to work?
I don’t really have my own space right now so things can get chaotic at times. We are moving soon and I get my own craft room so I cannot wait to make it into the beautiful and inspiring place that I’ve always wanted.
When do you feel the most creative?
Inspiration usually hits me at night when I’m about to go to sleep. I keep a notebook beside my bed so that I can write out all of my thoughts and ideas before I go to sleep.
Which of your designs is your favorite (or which one are you the most proud of)? Why?
I love each one of my designs. It’s really hard to choose. I’m currently in love with the spa set I just created.
We live in such a mass-produced, buy-it-now society where everything is either a click or a short drive away. Why should people continue to make things by hand?
I still think that things made by hand are more lovely and more precious than something made in a factory. There is just so much love, thought, and effort put into handmade items.
What inspired the hat you included in this challenge?
I have a little boy on the way and I wanted to make something that would be cute for him but still simple. I thought that stripes were perfect for any little boy!
