Today’s featured designer is Kristi Simpson from RAKJ Patterns. This is Kristi’s second year participating in the challenge, and I am so excited to have her back with us again! Kristi has donated the adorable Libby Hat pattern to the challenge this year. You can connect with RAKJ Patterns on Facebook or on Ravelry.
Where are you from?
I am from Sweet Home Alabama
Tell us a little bit about your family.
My family is so much fun. We love to spend time together and just hang out. We have 6 year old twin boys, and then 14 and 17 year old daughters.
Who taught you to crochet?
I DID! My daughter had received a ‘learn to crochet’ gift one year and I had to teach her how to do it….and I just never stopped!
What is your favorite thing you’ve ever made or designed?
Oh goodness…Do I have to pick just ONE?!?! I think, I would say that some of my favorite designs are my Sweet & Sassy Hat, the pettiskirt pattern and my split pea pod cocoon pattern.
What got you started writing patterns?
I was making and selling items for a while, but I soon realized that I enjoyed making NEW designs. I didn’t like making the same thing over and over, so I tried a few new things, and with my husband’s support, I jumped into designing!
Do you have a favorite yarn/hook/other supply?
Yes, oh yes. My favorite hooks is Clover Amore. My favorite yarn is Ice Angor Glitz (the shimmer is amazing!) and I just love a sharp pair of scissors!
Do you crochet to background noise? If so, what song/artist/tv show/movie is your favorite?
After the kiddos go to bed, my husband turns on sports and I pull out my work! I know the actors by voices instead of faces—funny or what?!?!
Where do you like to crochet?
My all-time favorite spot to crochet is snuggled up by my husband on our couch….I love my family!
Why are you participating in the challenge?
When my twins were born, one was in the NICU for 1 week and even though that doesn’t sound like long….it felt like it was forever! While we were there, we received various small gifts that I still have (a crochet lined Linus blanket and another sweet gift). It really means a lot when you know that someone has thought about you and your baby and made you something sweet. It is the little things that count and if I can help in any way—even if it’s through a pattern—then I’m all for it!
