Today’s featured challenge designer is Pam Dajczak from Sincerely Pam. She donated the Snowflake Beanie pattern to the challenge. Pam has so many cute designs in her shop. I’m thinking that I might need this one this winter — the Butterfly Breeze Poncho — for myself. Isn’t it gorgeous?? I love how it manages to look elegant and warm simultaneously. Link up with Pam on Facebook, Craftsy, or Ravelry. As a special bonus, Pam has offered a 40% off coupon code to her shop from now through December 31st. Use the coupon code CHRISTMAS to receive 40% off all single patterns in her Ravelry shop until Dec 31, 2014!
Where are you from?
I live in beautiful, Northern Ontario, Canada!
Tell us a little bit about your family.
I have an incredible husband, Ken, who actually encouraged me to start crocheting. I fell in love with it, and with his support started my business 2.5 years ago! We also have a son, Marek, who is the the funniest, most loving kid I have ever met! And we round out our family with our 6 year old Westie, Rigby!
Who taught you to crochet?
I’m self-taught. I wanted to learn how so I bought a hook and yarn (without knowing how to choose the right sizes!) and googled how to make a hat. Thank goodness I’m stubborn! I was not willing to quit until I could at least make a washcloth. The rest is history 🙂
What is your favorite thing you’ve ever made or designed?
Right now my favorite design is my Marek Vest. I designed it for the Design Wars Challenge this fall. It is my most detailed and thought-out design and I really do love it! It was also voted Favorite Design in the Challenge!
What got you started writing patterns?
I had played around with a couple stitches and made a cowl that I was selling as a finished item in my shop. People were asking for the pattern so I decided to try selling it and see what happens! I was absolutely terrified, but I became hooked (pun intended) and haven’t looked back!
Do you have a favorite yarn/hook/other supply?
Not really! I love how each different brand of yarn really inspires me to create something new, although I do have a soft spot for anything from Yarn Baby! As far as hooks go, anything that has a rubber grip on the handle is a must have for me 🙂
Do you crochet to background noise? If so, what song/artist/tv show/movie is your favorite?
I love to crochet to any show or movie that doesn’t need my full attention to enjoy it! Otherwise I end up either rewinding the same part over and over again because I miss it, or I’m so riveted by the show that I notice I haven’t worked a stitch in 20 mins!
Where do you like to crochet?
I crochet on the couch or in bed. Wherever the tv is 😉 Although… My best work is done in the car on road trips. Whenever we travel to visit our family that gives me 4 hours of uninterrupted crochet time! That never happens with a preschooler at home!
Why are you participating in the challenge?
As a Mom, I know how frightening it is when your little one is sick or needs special care. I also know, as a crafter, how much love is poured into each handmade item that is created. Bringing the two together feels like a no-brainer! I really love knowing that we are able to show these families that they are in our thoughts and that they are not alone.
