Every year as we walk through Costco, our little girls can’t contain their excitement when we pass the little cottage-style playhouses that are out on display. My Costco store, being brilliant at marketing, always places these awesome structures directly across the entrance to the dairy area, so when we get milk – which we always do – we must pass this structure.
We decided it was time to give in and get a little playhouse for the kids as a surprise, but our yard isn’t very level, and is surrounded with trees. We decided to built a little platform under the scrub oak to make the playhouse more like a treehouse.
We began by building a platform frame, then added posts to the ground so that it was level. Though it’s not pictured here, we put each of these on a little deck footing so that they wouldn’t rot or get infested by bugs.
Because I didn’t want to do a lot of maintenance, we covered our platform with trex.
Finally, the playhouse was assembled and screwed into the platform so that it couldn’t be accidentally pushed off the platform. When the kids saw it, they were delighted. And now I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the summer with imaginative play in our new “treehouse.”
